“Back to December,” the second single from country artist Taylor Swift’s third studio album, Speak Now, peaked at No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The music video for the emotional breakup ballad premiered on Thursday, according to Entertainment Tonight Online.
The singer belts out the lyrics in such locations as a bed and a bathtub, mourning the love that she regrets allowing to through her fingers. Swift sulks around the rooms of a sparely furnished house wearing a comfortable sweater, as her lost love walks a wintry landscape, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Many observers initially speculated that “Back to December” was an apology to her ex-boyfriend, Twilight star Taylor Lautner, when the song first leaked to the Internet. Swift has refused to reveal the identity of the individual she sings about in the ballad.
“I’ve never felt the need to apologize in a song before, but sometimes you learn a lesson too late and at that point you need to apologize because you were careless,” Swift told MTV in an October interview.
“This is about a person who was incredible to me, just perfect to me in a relationship, and I was really careless with him.”
